Venice - The cultural association (MoCA - Modern Contemporary Art), which has been organizing Arte Laguna Prize since 2006, has announced the opening of the 18th edition by reconfirming the North Arsenal of Venice as the exhibition space for the Group Exhibition, which will open on March 1 and will end on April 1, 2024.

An international art competition, Arte Laguna Prize is open to multiple disciplines: visual, performing, multimedia, land art and digital arts; and is aimed at enhancing contemporary art and mapping its current state. Created to offer art talents, more or less young, the opportunity to emerge and be noticed by the general public and the jury (composed of important names in the contemporary art scene), it aims to create an increasingly authoritative and influential system in the contemporary art world, involving new players from year to year.

A virtuous circuit that actively involves many diverse realities: Foundations, Museums, Galleries, Residences and spaces for art, Made in Italy companies and international brands, with which, in recent years, special projects have been designed, then transformed into concrete opportunities for growth and momentum for the professional careers of artists and designers.

Arte Laguna Prize welcomes artists of all ages, nationalities and artistic backgrounds, regardless of genre, with a free theme, thus representing, with each edition, a perfect snapshot of the artistic and social period.

Eligible categories include painting, sculpture and installation, photographic art, video art, performance art, virtual art, urban art, graphic art, and design.

The awards include international art residencies, group exhibitions in major art galleries, collaborations with leading companies in the art sector, participation in festivals, and much more, providing numerous and important opportunities for participants, allowing them to expand their network of contacts, gain international visibility, and access valuable resources for the development of their artistic careers.

Entries for artists and designers, which are still open Until November 22, 2023, also offer the opportunity to win some cash prizes and, last but not least, participate in the artelaguna.world platform created ad-hoc to make talent known globally, including through the web.

The jury is made up of internationally renowned experts in the field of visual arts: Laura Barreca, art historian and scientific director of Mudac, Museum of the Arts in Carrara; Giulia Colletti, curator of Digital Content at Castello di Rivoli Museo d'Arte Contemporanea in Turin; Krist Gruijthuijsen, director of KW Institute in Berlin; Gonzalo Herrero Delicado, Independent Curator based in London; David Max Horowitz, Assistant Curator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim in New York; Lu Peng, director of the Art Committee of the Chengdu Biennial in China; Anushka Rajendran, curator of the Prameya Art Foundation in India.

The 120 finalist works, selected by the jury on the basis of their artistic quality, originality and ability to communicate a meaningful message, will compete for the €10,000 cash prize and smaller prizes: €3,000 + production for a work using fire enamel on copper, €3,000 + production for a project dedicated to living, and €2,000 + for a project dedicated to sustainability. They will be exhibited, from March 2 to April 1, 2024, at the prestigious venue of the North Arsenale in Venice, where they will have the opportunity to be admired by curators, art critics, collectors and art lovers from all over the world with more than 10,000 attendees at each edition.

The final exhibition will be a culminating moment for the participating artists who will see their work placed in a major international context, a starting point for the many international collaborations of excellence.

If all this is not enough, Arte Laguna Prize, one of the winners of the PNRR TOCC call for the Digitization of Cultural and Creative Enterprises, is preparing to launch a unique project in the contemporary art scene, "Arte Laguna Digital", which has the ambition to revolutionize the way we experience and perceive art exhibitions. At the heart of this initiative is the transposition of the physical exhibition into the Metaverse, the three-dimensional digital universe where art comes to life in a surprisingly realistic way.

And that's not all! With great attention to the future of art, also in the plans is the implementation of the management of NFT (Non-Fungible Token) works. Through the use of blockchain, every artwork will be certified, ensuring its legal validity for sale.

The Virtual and Digital Art section of Arte Laguna Prize will accept all works created entirely using computers or digital applications and devices including: net art, video games, augmented reality projects, Additive Art, Bio Art, Data Art, Digital Performance, Generative and Algorithmic Art, Electronic Art, Robotic Art, XR Art, NFT Art, Metaverse Art, GAN Art & OpenAI Art, and Chrypto Art.

The exhibition will offer the public the opportunity to participate in live streaming of the opening event, thus transforming the enjoyment of art into an immersive and immediate experience.
