The beautiful works of Klimt on the ceramic eggs of La Terra incantata

A new and beautiful artistic proposal by F.lli Spagnulo de La Terra Incantata, who from the renowned Ceramics District of Grottaglie, in the province of Taranto, have decided to create a series hand-decorated ceramic egg special and launch it through their different web channels.

It is a continuum of the “From Canvas to Clay” collection that the Spagnulo brothers have been carrying out for some years, transmigrating some undisputed artistic and pictorial works on ceramics, representing some of the most representative details faithfully recreated by hand.

Specifically, there will be 3 works by Klimt from which the details associated with the eggs will be chosen, as well as 3 their dimensions, to make this precious object suitable for more or less large spaces. The works chosen are: “Il Bacio”, “Morte e Vita” and “The tree of Life” and will be hand painted with enamels and gold leaf, to enhance their brightness and decorative effect.

Le Uova di Fabergé – Un po’ di storia

The Fabergé Eggs were a creation of jewelry designed at the court of the Tsar of all the Russias by Peter Carl Fabergé, of the homonymous company. from the sepulcher.

Fabergé and his goldsmiths designed and built the first egg in 1885. The egg was commissioned by Tsar Alexander III of Russia, as an Easter surprise for his wife Maria Fyodorovna. The egg, white in color with opaque enamel, had a structure of Chinese boxes or Russian matryoshkas: inside there was an all-gold yolk, containing in turn a gold-colored hen and enamels with ruby eyes . The latter contained a miniature copy of the imperial crown containing a small egg-shaped ruby.

The Tsarina was so pleased with this gift that Fabergé was called by Alexander the “court jeweler”, and from that moment he was commissioned to make an Easter gift every year, provided that each egg was unique and contained a surprise.

Between 1885 and 1917, as many as 52 (59 including those for Kelch) were made of these Easter eggs in gold, precious and precious materials, every year with the approach of the festival. Beginning in 1895, when Alexander III died and his son Nicholas II ascended the throne, two eggs were produced each year, one for the new Tsarina Alexandra Fyodorovna Romanova and one for the empress mother. No eggs were produced in 1904 and 1905 due to the restrictions imposed by the Russo-Japanese War.

The preparation of the eggs took a whole year: once a project was chosen, a team of artisans worked to assemble the egg. The themes and appearance of the eggs varied widely. For example, on the outside, the 1900 egg (dedicated to the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway) was decorated with a gray metal band engraved with the route of the railway and inside it had a miniature golden train.
