Metakeramos is more than just a ceramic studio — it’s a soulful space where every creation is shaped by hand, heart, and memory. Founded by Apulian-born Italian artist and ceramicist Claudia Marino, Metakeramos embodies a contemporary vision of craftsmanship rooted in slowness, emotional depth, sustainability and authenticity.

Each piece is entirely handcrafted without molds or electric wheels. Claudia works solely with her hands and simple wooden tools, allowing for a direct, intimate connection with the clay. This minimalist approach results in truly unique ceramic sculptures, vases, lamps, clocks, and decorative objects — emotional snapshots of personal stories, memories, and transformation.

A signature element of Metakeramos is the use of ash glazes made from recycled beech wood ashes, gifted by a local pizzaiolo. These natural glazes are unpredictable and poetic, embracing imperfection and randomness as meaningful values. What was once discarded becomes beautiful again, reborn on ceramic surfaces through visual alchemy.

The name Metakeramos — from the Greek “meta” (beyond) — reflects Claudia’s desire to go beyond form and surface, reaching the emotional essence of the material. Her ceramics carry not just aesthetic value, but a personal vibration, a message, a feeling. One of her most beloved series, “Microworlds,” features tiny villages sculpted atop spherical stoneware bases — timeless, dreamlike worlds full of symbolism and soul.

Sustainability is at the heart of Metakeramos. All clay scraps are recycled, water is reused to nourish the studio’s plants, and eco-friendly packaging made of recycled, plastic-free materials ensures a low environmental footprint.
