Gabriele Pici - Interior Design
A home-decor catalog consisting of real sculptural works that combine art, thought and manual labor. The artistic craftsmanship of Gabriele Pici, in fact, gives life to an original interpretation of lamps, wall sconces, seats and other creations, ideal for interior design that enhances the play of light, creating a warm and enveloping atmosphere; for both classic and modern environments.
The GP Interior design collection comes from the passion and experience of Gabriele Pici, a master in working with Lecce stone. Gabriele is an artist-craftsman from Lecce, Salento, where he began this wonderful art of working with pietra leccese as early as 2000 at a historic local workshop. "Leccese stone, because of its porosity and ductility characteristics, allows me to give life to unique and sinuous forms, starting from a simple block of stone and an idea....
Each sculpture is a challenge between matter and fragility, between the static nature of stone and its dynamic potential in order to give new life and humanity to a material already sculpted by nature, the source of my inspiration. My hands become one with the block of stone that I model using only rasps, chisels, hammer and other craft tools." In fact, Gabriele Pici's peculiarity is not to sketch his ideas on paper, not to create sketches on which he can correct or reason, but to challenge the stone block, counting only on his hands and on what will finally turn from thought into extraordinary sculpture. Leccese stone, then, is for Gabriele Pici a means of emulation: "possibility of creating a second nature. Second nature that reflects the way I feel and experience the real one."
The exclusively manual work makes each object in this home-decor collection unique, and the refusal to use machinery guarantees authenticity while preserving the history of an ancient craft. The home-decor is enriched with small ivory-colored stone masterpieces inspired by olive trees or rocks carved by the sea and wind, executed entirely by hand and often featuring fossils mainly from marine fauna, which are preserved and enrich the GP Interior Design collection even more.
